Student Life Information

Welcome to UCLA, where exceptional education, research and service are our community missions and standards.  As you embark on your graduate education, consider some of the added benefits to studying at an internationally ranked university and living in the second largest city in the nation.

UCLA is a city within in a city.  Whether you decide to live on campus in the dazzling new Weyburn Terrace Paseo & Commons or in one of the many apartment options off campus, you will find convenience and comfort.  Stay healthy by dropping in for a group exercise class at the John Wooden Center or taking advantage of the Arthur Ashe Student Heath & Wellness Center.

Staff and faculty support your academic endeavors. Numerous resources such as our graduate student resource center, graduate writing center, and career hub offer a range of programs and workshops to bolster your academic aspirations, professional skills and career planning, while the  Business of Science Center is here to nurture your entrepreneurial spirit.

Need more inspiration?  UCLA hosts a Graduate Students Association, Volunteer Center, and over 800 student groups on campus. Several science-based organizations provide an avenue to meet new people, pursue outreach, and support your research and career development such as Advancing Women in Science and Engineering, Organization for Cultural Diversity in Science, Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science Chapter at UCLA, and STEM-PLEDGE

Getting Out and About

An adventure in Los Angeles would not be complete without a drive down Pacific Coast Highway on a 72 degree day (that's the area's average temperature, by the way), a ride on the Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica Pier, a stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame, or a visit Downtown – all less than 15 miles from campus.  Catch a homerun at Dodger Stadium, picnic under the stars listening to the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, or seek expansive views on a hike through Griffith Park.  Grab a bite off a food truck, pick up locally grown organic produce at an area farmers market, enjoy diverse ethnic cuisine, or sit down for an elegant meal prepared by a celebrity chef.   Feeling artsy? Why not visit the Fowler or Hammer Museum on the UCLA campus, or venture over to The Getty to see priceless sculptures, paintings and beautiful architecture.

The possibilities are endless.

Don't have a car?  No problem! There are many alternative transportation options to venture out and around.
