Advancing Faculty Mentoring Practices Workshop

January 3, 2020

University of California, Los Angeles

On behalf of the Graduate Programs in Bioscience at UCLA and the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) it is our pleasure to invite you to participate in a mentor development workshop to support your efforts in building diverse future scientist.

Overview

This workshop is for faculty seeking to examine, share, and strengthen their own mentoring practices. You will learn evidence-based approaches to research mentoring from the Entering Mentoring curriculum, which is specifically designed for research mentors across career stages.

Benefits

This training has the potential to increase research productivity that comes from improved well-being (especially mental wellbeing) of lab members, which leads to the reduction of interpersonal conflicts that draw attention away from research. It is our view that excellence in mentoring leads to a virtuous cycle of enhancing mentoring over time as generations of trainees learn best practices. This training is recognized by the NIH and NSF for grant applications as evidence of a commitment to trainee mentoring, including trainees from diverse backgrounds.
